Firth’s Views of Language
摘要:
意义研究一直是英国语言学的聚焦点，作为英国语言学界的中心人物，Firth强调，描述语言意义是语言学研究的主要任务。学术界普遍认为，他在语言学领域的两大突出贡献是提出情景语境思想和研究语言意义的方法。本文通过文献考证和讨论，梳理Firth在意义研究理论模型、概念体系和分析框架方面提出的观点，以期对未来的意义研究给予启示。
Abstract:
Studies of meaning have always been the focus of British linguistics. As the pioneer of British lin-guistics, Firth stressed that describing meaning is the main task in studying linguistics. The aca-demic world generally believes that Firth made two significant achievements, which are proposing the idea of context of situation and the methods to studying meaning. From a survey of the literature and a discussion, this paper concludes Firth’s opinions on the theoretical model, conceptual system and analytical framework of studies on meaning, hoping to shed a light on future studies on meaning.
