Abstract: In order to investigate the role of neuroticism on ingroup-outgroup audience effect of embar-rassment, Chinese adjective Big five personality Scale simplified version was exploited for selecting high-low neurotic individuals and the embarrassment in different unreal embarrassing situations was measured. Results revealed that low neurotic individuals reported higher embarrassment in front of strangers and ingroup members, while high neurotic individuals only felt more embarrassed when strangers were in present and their feelings showed no significant difference between ingroup or outgroup audiences. It suggests that the familiar/unfamiliar audience effect is independent with the ingroup-outgroup audience effect. And the neuroticism affects the ingroup-outgroup audience effect.
