An Investigation of Middle-Aged and Elderly Teachers: Creativity of Education Behavior and Influencing Factors
Abstract: Along with the acceleration of population aging in China, middle-aged and elderly workers have become an important group of current researchers; in particular, whether they will work effi-ciently with the growth of age and cognitive aging, especially the decline of innovation ability, has become an important issue for researchers. In present study, 656 primary and secondary school teachers were tested with Teaching Innovation Behavior Questionnaire, Achievement Motivation Questionnaire and focus on opportunities scale (Occupational FTP). The aim is to explore the status quo at creativity of education behavior and influencing factors of Chinese middle-aged and elderly teachers. The result shows that aging teachers do not show reducing educational creativity; conversely, their ability remains at a higher level: creativity of education behavior could be partly predicted by achievement motivation, focus on opportunities, age, teaching age, teaching grade, title and the like; the achievement motivation of teachers shows no decline with age, nevertheless the opportunity concern level does. In practice, we should break with the stereotype about middle-aged and elderly teachers, recognizing and utilizing their strengths as an effective force to cope with the current aging trend.
