A Study on the Factors Influencing the Willingness to Share Personal Health Information
Abstract: Objective: To investigate the factors influencing the willingness to share personal health information in the digital era. Methods: Meta-analysis was used to search the English journal articles on individuals’ willingness to share health information in four databases: Web of Science, Pubmed, Springer Link and Emerald, and to conduct a systematic review of the influencing factors. Results: Thirty-three papers with a total sample size of 16,626 were included, and seven major influencing factors on individuals’ willingness to share health information were extracted: trust, privacy risk perception, self-factor, information type, who to share, usage of information, and altruism. Conclusion: Individuals’ willingness to share health information is influenced by the seven factors, and these seven factors interact with each other. Stakeholders should take these factors into consideration when collecting personal health information, and design customized health information systems according to individual sharing preferences.
