Abstract: The lexical competition effect is an important issue in the field of lexical learning. It is itself an important indicator of the integration of newly acquired words into the mental lexicon, and many controversial issues have arisen in recent years with the development of the fast mapping paradigm. This paper presents research related to fast mapping and the lexical competition effect under fast mapping, including whether there is an independent neural mechanism for fast mapping, the prerequisites for lexical competition to arise under fast mapping, and the theoretical explanation of the lexical competition effect, and makes an outlook on future research.
