Abstract: Objective: To explore the relationship and mechanisms between existential anxiety and depres-sion in college students. Methods: 511 college students were recruited in the study to complete college students’ existential anxiety scale, rumination response scale, distress disclosure index scale, self-rating depression scale. Results: 1) College students’ existential anxiety, rumination and depression were all positively correlated. 2) Rumination played a partial mediating role between college students’ existential anxiety and depression. 3) Self-disclosure moderated this mediation effect of rumination. Specifically, the lower the level of self-disclosure, the positive predictive effect of rumination on depression in college students is stronger. Conclusion: The effect of college students’ existential anxiety on depression is partially mediated by rumination and moderated by self-disclosure.
