电影《绿皮书》中人物的面子威胁行为及其作用

Face-Threatening Behavior of Characters in the Movie Green Book and Its Effect

摘要: “面子”是每个人在公众中的个人形象，每个人都期望自己的“面子”能够在与他人交际中得以维护。布朗和莱文森将面子分为积极面子和消极面子，并且认为几乎所有的言语行为都会威胁到面子。文章以电影《绿皮书》中两位主角Dr. Donald Shirley和Tony Lip的对话为语料，采用定量研究和定性研究相结合的方式，从面子威胁行为理论的四个类型对语料进行分析，挖掘隐藏在对话中的人物性格以及人物关系，并揭示面子威胁行为理论对剧情发展的作用，以便观众能更好地理解电影主题思想。

Abstract: “Face” refers to an individual’s personal image in the public, and everyone expects their own faces to be preserved in communication with others. Brown and Levinson believed that “face” includes both positive face and negative face, and that almost all speech acts would threaten it. Combining the qualitative method with quantitative method, this paper shows the results of research into face-threatening acts of the utterances by the two main characters Dr. Donald Shirley and Tony Lip in the movie Green Book from the perspective of Face Threatening Acts theory. The results show that FTAs play an important role in character shaping and plot development, and they also help viewers to identify the character’s personality and to better understand the movie.
