Abstract: Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is a chronic progressive cholestatic liver disease in adults, charac-terized by progressive nonpurulent destruction of small bile ducts in the liver with portal vein in-flammation and fibrosis, which can eventually progress to cirrhosis and liver failure, and is one of the main indications for liver transplantation. This article will provide a unified review of risk fac-tors for the occurrence of PBC.
