改写理论视域下《素食者》的中英译本对比研究

Comparative Analysis of The Vegetarian’s Chinese and English Translations under Rewriting Theory

摘要: 自《素食主义者》英译本The Vegetarian获得布克国际文学奖后，原作及相关译作均成为了东西方学术界热议的焦点。本文立足改写理论视阈，对原作者韩江的《素食主义者》、中译本《素食者》和英译本The Vegetarian进行比读和分析，探究两个译本的翻译策略异同。其中，中译本倾向使用异化策略，在实现词汇、文化层面功能对等的同时，给读者传递异国文化色彩。而英译本则是倾向采用归化策略，不仅可以为目标语读者提供清晰流畅的阅读体验，也相应的减少了读者的陌生感。

Abstract: The original book and the associated translations have generated contentious discussions in both Eastern and Western academic circles since the English translation of The Vegetarian won the Booker International Literary Prize. This essay compares and contrasts the words and sentences found in the Chinese and English translations of The Vegetarian based on Andre Lefevere’s rewriting theory and investigates the translation techniques and specific goals used by the two versions. Among these, the Chinese translation frequently employs the foreignizing strategy to provide readers an exotic cultural perspective while achieving lexical and cultural functional parity. The English translation frequently uses the domesticating strategy, which not only makes the target language readers’ reading experience clear and fluent but also lessens their sense of unfamiliarity. Different degrees of translator presence or invisibility, as well as variances in reader perception, aesthetic experience, functional differences, and market impacts, have been caused by the two translations’ distinct translation strategies.
