Abstract: With the advancement of science and technology and the deepening of globalisation, the two major languages of English and Chinese and the cultures behind them have become more and more prominent in international communication. This study aims to explore the linguistic and cultural differences between English and Chinese through an in-depth comparison of their grammar, lan-guage structure and expression habits. The article firstly surveys the history of research in this field, providing readers with a solid theoretical background. Next, it analyses the contrast between the two on a number of levels, including how they reflect their respective ways of thinking and cultural values. The study concludes by emphasising that understanding and recognising these differences is crucial for effective intercultural communication, and hopes to provide useful references for fu-ture international cooperation and communication.
