Abstract: Based on cognitive poetics and experimental psychology, this article explores whether English ma-jors can achieve better emotional reactions in Chinese or English after reading English poem The Road Not Taken through a single factor two level experiment. The research shows that it is better to use Chinese to express their emotions for English majors. By using the grounded theory to analyze the corpus, this article adds another 6 types of emotional reactions based on the former 6 ones of Oatley, then explores total 12 types of emotional reactions that English majors generate during the process of poetry reading.
