ChatGPT译文的衔接与连贯——以ChatGPT汉译英《爱莲说》为例

The Cohesion and Coherence in ChatGPT’s Translation—Taking the C-E Translation of The Language of Flowers as an Example

摘要: ChatGPT是否会取代翻译人员，很大程度取决于其翻译水平的高低。而翻译水平高低的重要指标就是译文衔接性、连贯性的强弱。本文以ChatGPT4.0翻译的《爱莲说》为对象，分析译文的衔接手段，并基于主述位理论对译文的主述3位、主述位推进模式进行统计和分析，发现译文的衔接性、连贯性较弱，从而可知ChatGPT目前并不能完全取代人工翻译。

Abstract: Whether ChatGPT will replace translators depends largely on how well it translates. To some extent, achieving cohesion and coherence when translating is a significant quality for a translator. Taking the translation of The Language of Flowers from ChatGPT4.0 as target, this paper analyses the cohesion in the translation, as well as makes statistics and analysis on the theme-rheme and theme-rheme progression mode of the translation. It is found that the cohesion and coherence of the translation needs improving, and thus it can be seen that ChatGPT is not able to completely replace human translation at present.
