On Japanese Cooperation from the Perspective of Japanese Dialogue—Centered around the Type of Correction for the “Obstacle Source” in the Conversation
Abstract:
This article utilizes the theory and methods of conversation correction, focusing on the types of correction of “obstacles” in conversations. By investigating and analyzing the actual conversations of Japanese people in both native and non native language settings, it examines the use of correction types in daily conversations. To verify this, Japanese people aim to avoid situations where pointing out or correcting the “source of obstruction” in others’ words may harm their face or cause discomfort to them. The conclusion is that as long as there is no impact on understanding and communication, the Japanese rarely or even do not initiate or execute revisions; even initiating or executing revisions will take appropriate measures to maintain mutual cooperation with the other party.
