Research on the English Translation of The Analects of Confucius from the Perspective of Digital Humanities

摘要: 《论语》作为中华典籍的精华，在我国传统文化中拥有不可或缺的地位。《论语》的对外传播有利于提升中国形象，推动对外文化交流与合作。本文以AntConc、Readability Analyzer检索工具作为辅助，以两个具有代表性理雅各和韦利的《论语》英译本为基本语料，自建小型语料库，从类符/形符比、高频词、词汇密度、句型特征、文本可读性等对两个版本译作的语言词汇展开数据分析统计，考察分析各译本所呈现出的艺术特色和风格，旨在为典籍英译研究提供相关参考依据。

Abstract: The Analects of Confucius, as the essence of Chinese classics, holds an indispensable position in tra-ditional Chinese culture. The external dissemination of The Analects of Confucius is beneficial to enhancing China’s image and promoting cultural exchange and cooperation with foreign countries. This article uses AntConc and Readability Analyzer as retrieval tools, taking two representative English translations of The Analects of Confucius by James Legge and Arthur Waley as basic materi-als to establish a small corpus. It explores the language and vocabulary of the two translation ver-sions through data analysis and statistics on type-token ratio, high-frequency words, vocabulary density, sentence structure features, and text readability. The aim is to analyze the artistic charac-teristics and styles presented in each translation, providing relevant references for the study of translating classics into English.
