Abstract: By reviewing the progress and empirical research on public speaking anxiety in foreign countries, it has been found that current research mainly focuses on exploring the causes, evaluation, and miti-gation methods of public speaking anxiety. Although most studies have mentioned the representa-tion of public speaking anxiety, there is a lack of detailed and systematic discussion on its multi-modal representation. Based on the analysis of multimodal representations of public speaking anx-iety in relevant literature, this study finds that their verbal representations of public speaking are mainly embodied in speech disfluency, pauses, etc., while nonverbal representations are mainly re-flected in body swings, clenched hands, breathing difficulties, etc. These results indicate the neces-sity of utilizing multimodal sensing technology to extract and analyze the multimodal characteris-tics of anxiety among college English public speakers, and intervening with virtual reality technol-ogy to reduce the anxiety of Chinese college English speakers. Through the normalization of English speech course, the effectiveness and popularity of college English speech teaching in China are comprehensively improved.
