Abstract: The spontaneous breathing trial is an assessment tool used to assess the ability of spontaneous breathing before extubation. It can improve the success rate of extubation and reduce the time of mechanical ventilation. It is a well-established and commonly used assessment method in adults, but has been less studied in neonates, especially preterm infants. Continuous Positive Airway Pres-sure (ET-CPAP) is the most extensively studied method in premature infants, with good sensitivity but low specificity. The model of spontaneous breathing trial suitable for premature infants still needs to be further explored. This paper mainly analyzes and summarizes the previous researches on SBT, from the aspects of definition, classification, implementation methods and security.
