Abstract: In recent years, gender has gradually become a widely discussed topic. People are increasingly val-uing the impact of gender roles on individual’s physical and mental health development. As a com-ponent of self-identity, gender roles exert profound influences on an individual’s cognition, emo-tions, and behavior. This article uses the androgyny theory as a framework to review empirical re-search on the relationship between gender roles and mental health. The exploration spans across dimensions of self-esteem, life satisfaction, and emotional well-being, delving into the multifaceted impact of gender roles on psychological health. Furthermore, this paper examines the potential links between gender roles and psychological issues such as depression and anxiety, providing in-sights into shaping positive gender roles as a potential intervention strategy for mental health.
