Abstract: Schizotypy is a kind of personality traits that predicts the risk of mental disorders including schizophrenia and so on. Individuals with high level of schizotypy exhibit similar but relatively weak empathic deficits as those with schizophrenia. The psychological characteristics of independent college students are different from those of general colleges. At present, there are few researches to investigate the schizotypy of independent college students, and the relationship between schizotypy and empathy of independent college students is still unclear. This study examined the schizotypy and empathic status of 406 independent college students. The results showed that the scores of positive, negative and disordered schizotypy among independent college students were negatively correlated with their empathy performance. The disordered schizotypy among independent college students can negatively predict their empathic performance. Screening and intervention for schizotypy in independent college students can improve their empathy ability.
