Clinical Application of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Abstract: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease mainly characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow obstruction. Although pulmonary function testing is the cornerstone of COPD diagnosis, it cannot fully assess the full extent of the disease due to the heterogeneity of the disease and the involvement of multiple systems including the heart, blood vessels, and musculoskeletal system. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is an important tool in the evaluation of a variety of clinical diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and can assess the function and reserve capacity of each system. This article mainly describes the clinical application of CPET in the etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of COPD.
