Abstract: Infectious endophthalmitis is one of the most devastating complications after eye surgery. Although rare, it is often accompanied by a very poor prognosis. Therefore, identifying the causative factors of postoperative endophthalmitis is necessary to reduce the risk. The ocular surface has a stable microbial community. Understanding and monitoring its distribution and resistance may help us in developing perioperative prevention measures. This article reviews the ocular surface microbial community and its resistance.
