Abstract: With modern lifestyle changes and an ageing population, low back pain has become a common health problem worldwide. Traditional treatments such as medications, physiotherapy and surgery have limited effect on some patients and new therapies are urgently needed. Neuromodulation techniques, as emerging therapies, show great potential in controlling abnormal nerve signals and pain perception. This article describes the mechanism of action of different types of neuromodulation techniques and their current and future applications in low back pain, with a view to promoting the application and development of neuromodulation techniques.
