The Advancement of Research on Developmental Endothelial Locus-1 in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis Exacerbated by Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Abstract: Periodontitis is a leading cause of tooth loss in adults, with diabetes being identified as a significant risk factor for its development. The exact pathogenesis of periodontitis in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains unclear. Developmental endothelial locus-1 (DEL-1) is a versatile protein involved in the regulation of various inflammatory diseases, including periodontitis. By reading the relevant literature, this paper reviews the relationship between DEL-1 and T2DM periodontitis, in order to provide new insights into the possible mechanism of T2DM aggravating periodontitis and the potential treatment strategy of T2DM periodontitis.
