Abstract: Schema theory is a psychological theory about how knowledge is stored and retrieved in memory, which plays a crucial role in language teaching, especially in the field of reading comprehension. This paper aims to discuss the application of schema theory in English reading teaching. By examining the principles and strategies of schema theory, this paper discusses how to effectively use schema theory to improve students’ reading comprehension ability and promote students’ language learning. It provides practical suggestions and examples for junior middle school English teachers to better apply the schema theory to teaching.
