Research Progress in the Point-of-Care Testing of Five Infectious Diseases
Abstract: The global economic impact caused by the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic emphasizes the urgent need for the development of rapid and real-time pathogen detection methods. Such advancements are crucial for the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. The continuous improvement of technology, coupled with increased public awareness of health, has greatly accelerated the progress of Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) techniques. This review article provides an overview of the recent advancements in POCT technology applied to five diseases: malaria, hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS, Ebola virus, and SARS-CoV-2. The article highlights the advantages of combining various techniques such as isothermal amplification, CRISPR/Cas technology, and lateral flow analysis for the detection of different infectious diseases. Furthermore, the integration of wearable devices and artificial intelligence has facilitated the convenience of POCT diagnostics.
