Abstract: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common inflammatory condition of the pancreatic parenchyma in clinical practice. Although most cases are self-limiting with a good prognosis, around 20% of AP patients progress to severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), which often presents with local or systemic complications and can lead to multiple organ failure and high mortality rates. Therefore, accurately predicting the severity of AP in the early stages is crucial for optimizing diagnosis and treatment measures and reducing mortality rates. In recent years, various laboratory indicators have been found to be able to predict the severity of AP, and they are simple to measure and obtain quickly upon admission. This article provides an overview of the research progress on the predictive value of laboratory indicators for assessing the severity of AP.
