简奥斯丁算不上是一位多产作家，可是她的小说却广为流传。曼斯菲尔德庄园便是其中之一。小说女主人公范妮在经历了一系列的事件之后出落成一个能够独立思考和理性判断的女性。简奥斯丁巧妙地使用自由间接引语，促使成长这一主题得到了很好的加深和展现。这一效果的实现借助了自由间接引语的含混功能，使得叙述者的描述和人物语言难以区分。具体到这本小说也就是全知全能的第三人称叙述者同女主人公范妮产生了话语重叠，从而使得范妮获得本不属于她的感知。本文通过分析小说曼斯菲尔德庄园中的自由间接引语功能，将给予成长主题以全新的阐释。希本文能够为这一领域的研究有所贡献亦或是启迪。
Jane Austen is not a voluminous writer, but her novels enjoy a great popularity among readers, and Mansfield Park (MP) is included. Fanny Price, the heroine of novel, undergoes a series of events and finally grows into a girl of independent mind and rational judgment. The theme of the novel maturity is intensified by Jane Austen’s delicate and deliberate employment of free indirect speech (FID) since FID possesses the function of blurring the distinction between the discourses from the narrator and the character. Specifically the discourses overlap between the omniscient narrator and the heroine Fanny Price in the novel so that Fanny acquires the knowledge beyond her. This paper offers a fresh illustration of the theme maturity with the help of analysis of the function of FID in the novel MP. In this way, this paper can contribute to the study of Austen and enlighten the following studies.
