Abstract: Objective: This study was conducted to assess the prenatal developmental blood lipid-lowering effects of an Antrodia cinnamomea mycelia powder complex according to the safety assessment guideline of Health Food announced by Ministry of Health and welfare, Executive Yuan of Taiwan. Methods: A total of 32 hyperlipidemia individuals with TC > 200 mg/dl were randomly divided into intervention group (n = 16) and placebo group (n = 16). Dietary intervention was provided for the intervention group for 2 months. Information on dietary intakes, physical examinations and blood samples was collected. Serum lipids were assayed at baseline and endpoint of the study period. Subjects take two capsules of A. cinnamomea mycelia powder complex or placebo twice a day. The study has 2 weeks run in period, 8 weeks intervention period, and 4 weeks follow-up period. All subjects measure body weight, body fat, blood pressure and biochemical parameters, including triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein in cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein in cholesterol (HDL-C), blood sugar, kidney and liver function. Results: The results were found after 8 weeks intervention, the plasma total cholesterol and LDL-C were significantly decreased compared with the initial, and there was significantly difference (p < 0.05) compared with the placebo group. LDL-C/HDL-C and triglyceride level has a decreasing trend. Conclusion: A. cinnamomea mycelia powder complex could decrease blood lipids.
