On the National Integration Ideal of Kate Chopin’s Short Stories

摘要: 美国作家凯特•肖邦一直被奉为美国女性主义文学创作的先驱之一，国内外对其作品的研究也多集中于婚姻、女性解放等主题，这在一定程度上限制了对肖邦作品的解读。她的创作虽以南方为背景，却具有一种“国际视野”。肖邦在其作品中刻画了克里奥尔人、法人后裔、黑人与白人之间的文化混杂现象，表达了异质文化之间交流与融合的文化理想。本文拟通过文本细读对凯特•肖邦作品中的文化理想进行深入探究。

Abstract: American writer Kate Chopin is one of the forerunners of feminist authors. Chopin’s studies at home and abroad have mostly focused on the theme of marriage and women’s liberation, which greatly hinders the further interpretation of Chopin. Chopin’s stories are set mainly in Natchi-toches parish but they are imbued with a global view. She deals fully with the Creole, the Cajun, and the Negro and expresses her good wishes for cultural integration. This article attempts to explore Chopin’s cultural idealism via detailed text analysis.
