The Relationship between College Students’ Future Time Perspective and Body Mass Index: A Moderated Mediation Model
Abstract: Objective: To explore the relationship between future time insight, social physique anxiety, emotional eating, and body mass index. Method: A total of 1995 college students were tested using the General Future Time Perspective Scale for College Students, Social Physical Anxiety Scale (SPA), Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ), and BMI calculation formula. The results were verified using the Process plugin. Results: (1) Emotional eating played a partial mediating role in the relationship between future time perspective and body mass index; (2) Social physical anxiety can regulate the first half of the mediation process. Conclusion: Compared with individuals with low social physique anxiety, individuals with high social physique anxiety can enhance the negative predictive effect of future time perspective on body mass index. However, overall, individuals with high social physique anxiety exhibit more emotional eating behavior.
