The Impact of Gender Stereotypes on Women in STEM: A Review and Prospective Outlook
摘要: 文章综述了STEM领域中性别刻板印象的心理学研究,探讨了其定义、成因、行为效应以及解决策略。性别刻板印象通常表现为认为女性不适合STEM领域,这种观念可能从早期教育开始形成,并在社会文化和教育环境中得到加强。这些刻板印象对女性在STEM教育和职业发展中产生负面影响,如降低自我概念、影响职业选择等。为减少性别差异,提出了包括心理干预、教育模式改革、兴趣培养和社会支持在内的多种策略。未来研究需进一步探讨如何打破性别刻板印象,提高女性在STEM领域的参与度和成就感。
Abstract: This review synthesizes psychological research on gender stereotypes in the STEM fields, discussing their definition, causes, behavioral effects, and potential solutions. Gender stereotypes often manifest as the belief that women are not suited for STEM areas, a notion that may begin in early education and be reinforced by sociocultural and educational contexts. These stereotypes negatively impact women’s participation and achievement in STEM education and career development, such as lowering self-concept and affecting career choices. To reduce gender disparities, various strategies have been proposed, including psychological interventions, educational reform, interest cultivation, and social support. Future research needs to further explore how to break gender stereotypes and enhance women’s participation and sense of achievement in STEM fields.
