Abstract: The translation of non-literary functional texts involves the precise conveyance of information and the realization of specific functions, encompassing various types of documents such as legal regulations and technical manuals. This type of translation demands not only linguistic accuracy but also the alignment of the target text’s functionality and meaning with that of the source text. This paper conducts a detailed analysis of the “Provisions for Instructions and Labels of Medical Devices (Decree No. 6 of China Food and Drug Administration)” to explore the standards, strategies, and theories pertinent to the translation of non-literary functional texts, with a particular focus on the application of Christiane Nord’s text analysis model in the translation process. This paper examines the efficacy of Nord’s text analysis model in accurately conveying information and fulfilling translation functions within the context of non-literary functional text translation. By focusing on the translation of medical regulatory texts, the study provides theoretical support and practical guidance, underscoring the significance of functional translation in legal and technical documents.
