李霁野汉译本《简爱自传》欧化探析

A Study on the Europeanization of the Chinese Version of Jane Eyre Translated by Li Jiye

摘要: 李霁野汉译的《简爱自传》初版于1935~1936年间，是夏洛蒂的小说Jane Eyre在中国的第一个全译本。该译本在词法、句法等方面展现出浓郁的欧化特色，与五四以来的欧化翻译文化和李霁野直译的翻译方法息息相关。文章先结合实例探讨《简爱自传》词法和句法两方面的欧化特色，进而揭示影响欧化译法的社会文化因素和译者个人因素。研究发现李译本的欧化表达，不仅顺应了时代洪流，也反映了译者个人的选择。因而，此《简·爱》译本对于大众了解20世纪30年代中国的翻译文学和语体文发展有着重要的学术研究价值。

Abstract: Li Jiye’ s Chinese version of Jane Eyre, first published in 1935 and 1936, is the first full translation of Charlotte’ s novel in China. The translation shows strong the Europeanized style in morphology and syntax, which is closely related to the foreignizing translation culture since the May Fourth Movement and the translator’s literal translation method. This paper first discusses the Europeanization with examples from the angle of morphology and syntax, and then reveals the socio-cultural factors that affect the translation as well as the personal factors of the translator. The study finds that the Europeanization of Li’s translation not only conforms to the Times, but also reflects the translator’s personal choice. Therefore, the version of Jane Eyre has important academic research value for the public to understand the development of Chinese translation literature and style in the 1930s.
