Abstract: This study provides a review of eye-tracking research in the field of multimedia learning. The primary aim is to explore how eye-tracking technology can be employed to investigate the cognitive processes involved in learning with animations. A total of 21 studies were analysed. The key findings are as follows: 1) Common features of research designs include the use of university students as participants, the selection of scientific materials as learning content, and the adoption of eye movements as objective measurement indices; 2) Eye-tracking technology has been used to examine the cognitive processes of selection, organisation, and integration in multimedia learning; 3) Factors such as multimedia learning principles, animation presentation types, individual differences, metacognition, and emotions are potential influences on eye-tracking measurements; and 4) there is growing interest in the application of eye-tracking technology in multimedia learning research.
