The Relationship between Parental Warmth and Adolescents Problem Behaviors
Abstract: Problem behavior refers to abnormal behaviors that hinder an individual social adaptation, encompassing both internal negative emotional issues and external actions that violate social norms and morals. Previous research has confirmed that adolescence is a high-incidence period for psychological and behavioral problems, and such maladaptive behaviors during this stage can have a negative impact on an individual future growth and development. According to the Parental Acceptance-Rejection Theory, the acceptance and rejection by parents are closely linked to an individual psychological and behavioral issue. Some researchers have already conducted studies on the relationship between parental warmth (which includes two sub-dimensions: parental acceptance and parental rejection) and adolescent problem behavior. Building on previous research, this article will summarize existing viewpoints and conclusions, and explore the internal mechanisms that can explain the relationship between the two from cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions, providing a direction for future research.
