Abstract: The rapid development of China’s digital entertainment industry has made video games an important form of entertainment consumption. In the field of cognitive training, the effect of action video games on executive function is controversial: most studies have shown that it can improve attention control and task switching ability, but some studies have not found significant correlation, and even observed the negative effects of excessive games. Many studies have confirmed that systematic game intervention can improve cognitive transfer ability. However, due to the limitation of experimental conditions, most of the existing studies use cross-sectional design, which is difficult to reveal the relationship between game experience and cognitive development. Although there are breakthroughs in longitudinal research, there is a deviation between the high-intensity training program and the natural game mode, which may induce behavioral dependence and conflict with the principles of healthy games. Based on the theory of cognitive neuroscience, this study will systematically sort out the relationship between action video games and executive function to solve the limitations of existing research.
