Abstract: A sense of power refers to an individual’s subjective perception of relative capability derived from asymmetric resources in social relationships. As an asymmetric factor in social interactions, power creates disparities in perceptions of status and resources between interacting parties, making it a critical determinant of cooperative behavior in interactive games. However, existing research has yet to establish a consensus on the differences in cooperative behavior among individuals in power-asymmetric relationships or the underlying mechanisms. Therefore, this study systematically reviews the conceptualization of sense of power, research paradigms, and relevant theoretical explanations to provide a theoretical foundation for identifying the moderating mechanisms through which sense of power influences cooperative behavior. Future research should address the role of reputational motivations arising from repeated games and the moderating effects of perceived unfairness.
