Abstract: In recent years, the investigation into insomnia treatment using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has emerged as a significant academic focus. However, to date, no systematic bibliometric analysis of this domain has been conducted. This study aims to comprehensively analyze the research advancements in TCM-based insomnia treatment, systematically review and synthesize relevant literature, and elucidate the current research status, hotspots, and developmental trends in this field. By utilizing the Web of Science core collection as the literature retrieval platform, all publications related to TCM-based insomnia treatment from the inception of the database to April 30, 2025, were retrieved. Employing the Bibliometrix package in R language and the visualization tool VOSViewer, a multidimensional and in-depth analysis was performed on the collected literature data, encompassing countries, institutions, authors, keywords, and co-cited literature, among others, to uncover research trends and cutting-edge hotspots in this domain. Results: A total of 834 relevant publications were included. The number of published papers in the field of TCM-based insomnia treatment has shown an annual increase both domestically and internationally. China ranks first in terms of the number of published papers. At the institutional level, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine in China leads with the highest number of published articles. Regarding individual contributions, scholars from the University of Hong Kong are the most frequently cited. “Medicine” is the journal with the highest number of publications in this field. High-frequency keywords include “insomnia”, “acupuncture”, “sleep”, “prevalence”, and “depression”. Through analyzing the cutting-edge hotspots, it was determined that the most frequently cited literature is “ZHOU ZH, 2024, INT J NEUROSCI”. Conclusion: Currently, in this field, the efficacy and mechanism of TCM intervention methods such as herbal medicine and acupuncture constitute the primary research focus. The research content is extensive, involving numerous institutions and a relatively high number of published papers, indicating promising development prospects.
