Abstract: This study explores the red and blue color metaphors of the gender concept and the balance of bidirectional mapping. Experiment 1 requires the participants to select the subject of the appropriate gender for the sentences in red and blue. Experiment 2 requires the participants to choose a male or female in blue or red as the main subject for the sentence. The results of Experiment 1 show that the interaction between color and gender is significant. Under the blue condition, the response to “him” is significantly faster than that to “she”, while under the red condition, there is no significant difference in the responses to “she” and “he”. The results of Experiment 2 also discovered the interaction between color and gender. Under the condition of male as the main subject, there was no significant difference in the response to red and blue colors. Under the sentence condition of female as the main subject, the response to red color was significantly faster than that to blue color. The experimental results prove that the concept of gender has the metaphor of red and blue colors, and the bidirectional mapping is unbalanced.
