Abstract: In animated films such as “Warriors of the Wind,” “Castle in the Sky,” “Princess Mononoke,” “Spirited Away,” and including his farewell work “The Boy and the Heron” released in 2024, Hayao Miyazaki presents audiences with a world that is both fantastical and authentic under the framework of magical realism, with profound humanistic care at its core. Miyazaki not only constructs exotic worlds full of fantasy but also delves deep into and showcases the profound connotations of human emotions, moral ethics, and the philosophy of existence behind these “magical” spectacles. He skillfully utilizes supernatural elements and fantastical settings to mirror the conflicting relationships and the possibility of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, humans and society, as well as humans and themselves in the real world.
