The Double-Edged Sword of Punishment: In-Depth Exploration and Innovative Practices of Teacher Punishment on Students
Abstract: This article explores the complexities of teacher punishment on students, analyzing the theoretical foundations, types, and effects of punishment, as well as the ethical and legal considerations in educational contexts. The findings indicate that while punishment may be effective in the short term, its potential negative impacts, such as anxiety and decreased self-esteem, prompt educators to seek more constructive alternatives, such as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Through these innovative practices, teachers can maintain classroom discipline while promoting students’ mental health and overall development.
