Is Art an Evolution?—Thoughts Based on the Changes of Technological Forms

摘要: 19世纪斯宾塞等人开始探讨关于艺术起源与进化的问题，他们将艺术的产生和发展归结为生物进化的过程，认为艺术本身也遵循着类似生物适应那样从低级到高级的进化历程。但是，随着时代的发展，今天产生的AI艺术是否让人类总体的艺术水平上了一个台阶？如果是，那么为什么AI艺术产生的作品有时会让人产生不适感。基于此种现象，我们不免思考科技进步所带来的新艺术，究竟是代表艺术本身的进化，还是只表示艺术依托科技进步产生新的形式。对此，本文将结合科技发展历程和当今人工智能艺术的现状，批判艺术进化论的相关观点。

Abstract: In the 19th century, figures like Spencer began exploring the question of the origin and evolution of art. They attributed the emergence and development of art to the process of biological evolution, arguing that art itself follows an evolutionary path from the low to the high, similar to biological adaptation. However, with the advancement of time, has AI art raised the overall artistic level of humanity? If so, why do works generated by AI art sometimes evoke a sense of discomfort? Given this phenomenon, we cannot help but ponder: does the new art brought about by technological progress represent the evolution of art itself, or merely signify new forms of art driven by technological advancement? In this paper, we will integrate the course of technological development with the current status of AI art to critique the relevant views of art evolutionary theory.
