Self-Compassion: A Discussion of Its Connotations, Psychological Mechanisms, and Intervention Research
Abstract: Self-compassion, a rapidly developing concept in positive psychology, emphasizes that individuals should treat themselves with kindness, understanding, and acceptance when faced with pain, setbacks, and failures, rather than engaging in self-criticism or self-punishment. It also acknowledges that pain is a common human experience. This paper aims to discuss the conceptual structure, theoretical basis, psychological mechanisms, relationship with mental health, and current state of intervention research related to self-compassion.
