多因素视角下的译者认知风格概念化研究——以鲁迅英译作品为例
A Conceptual Study of Translators’ Cognitive Styles from a Multi-Factor Perspective—A Case Study of the English Translations of Lu Xun’s Works
摘要: 本文以杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇翻译的《鲁迅小说选》(Selected Stories of Lu Hsun)和威廉·莱尔(William Lyell)的翻译作品《狂人日记及其他故事》(Diary of a Madman and Other Stories)为例，尝试从视角概念化的角度探讨确认译者认知风格。本研究基于平行语料库，揭示了两种翻译风格：杨译倾向于保持原文的直接性和力量感，强调原文的批判性和讽刺性；莱译则更注重情感和细节的深入挖掘，强调日记体裁特点和个体性。研究结果表明，尽管两位译者在使用s-genitive和of-genitive的频次上没有显著差异，但在语境共现的因素尤其是情感倾向上存在显著差异。这一发现表明，译者在翻译过程中不仅受到语言内部因素的影响，还受到个人风格、语言表现力和情感因素等外部因素的影响。本研究不仅丰富了我们对译者认知风格及其在翻译实践中的理解，也为翻译研究提供了新的视角和方法。
Abstract: This study examines the conceptualization of translators’ cognitive styles through a comparative analysis of two English translations of Lu Xun’s works: Selected Stories of Lu Hsun by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang, and Diary of a Madman and Other Stories by William Lyell. Based on a parallel corpus, the research reveals two distinct translation styles: the Yangs’ translation tends to preserve the directness and rhetorical force of the original text, emphasizing its critical and satirical tone, whereas Lyell’s version focuses more on emotional depth and nuanced details, highlighting the diary-like narrative style and individuality. The findings indicate that while both translators show no significant difference in the frequency of s-genitive and of-genitive usage, there are notable variations in contextual co-occurrence, particularly in emotional orientation. This suggests that translators’ decisions are influenced not only by intralinguistic factors but also by extralinguistic elements such as personal style, expressive preferences, and affective considerations. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of translators’ cognitive styles and their manifestation in translation practice, while also offering new perspectives and methodologies for translation studies.
