英语嗅觉形容词的语义韵研究——以“Fragrant”“Aromatic”“Stale”“Smelly”为例

Study on the Semantic Prosody of English Olfactory Adjectives—Taking “Fragrant”, “Aromatic”, “Stale” and “Smelly” as Examples

摘要: 嗅觉词是词汇系统中一种特殊的词群，本文将以“fragrant”“aromatic”“stale”和“smelly”为研究对象，运用定性与定量相结合的研究方法，利用COCA语料库对节点词进行语义韵搭配研究，最终实现嗅觉形容词在搭配形式和语用角度方面得到较清晰的规律，从而使英语学习者能够减轻掌握嗅觉形容词的搭配压力，逐渐培养语义韵意识。

Abstract: Olfactory words constitute a special group in the lexical system. This study takes “fragrant”, “aromatic”, “stale” and “smelly” as the research objects, and adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. By using the COCA corpus to conduct semantic prosody collocation research on the node words, the aim is to achieve a clearer understanding of the collocation patterns and pragmatic aspects of olfactory adjectives. This will help English learners reduce the pressure of mastering the collocations of olfactory adjectives and gradually cultivate their awareness of semantic prosody.
