合作原则视角下《蛙》会话含义研究——以葛浩文英译本为例

A Study of Conversational Implicature in the Novel Frog from the Perspective of Cooperative Principle—A Case Study of Howard Goldblatt’s English Translation

摘要: 《蛙》是中国作家莫言的长篇小说，于2009年首次出版，2011年获得茅盾文学奖。书中蕴含大量对话，具有魔幻现实主义色彩，深受大众喜爱。本文将通过是美国语言学家格莱斯的合作原则(数量准则、质量准则、关系准则和方式准则)对《蛙》(葛浩文英译本)中的某些对话的翻译进行解读分析，分析出其更深层次的会话含义，更好地揭示各个人物鲜明性格和内心情感，以便加深读者对小说的理解。

Abstract: Frog is a novel written by the acclaimed Chinese writer Mo Yan, published in 2009 and won the Mao Dun Literature Prize in 2011. The novel has numerous dialogues and imbued with Magic Realism, earning widespread acclaim. This study applies Grice’s Cooperative Principle (comprising the maxims of quantity, quality, relation, and manner) to analyze selected dialogues’ translation in Frog (Howard Goldblatt’s English version of Frog). By uncovering deeper conversational implicatures, this paper aims to elucidate the characters’ distinctive personalities and inner emotions, thereby enhancing readers’ comprehension of the novel.
