框架语义学视角下古诗词意象英译——以宋词《钗头凤》为例
Translating Imagery in Classical Chinese Poetry from the Perspective of Frame Semantics—A Case Study of “Chai Tou Feng”
摘要: 研究基于框架语义学视角,以宋代诗人陆游的代表作《钗头凤》多个英译本为案例,对比分析译者在意象翻译中的不同处理方式,旨在探讨古典诗词意象的认知机制与传递策略。通过对五个具有代表性的译本进行分析,并结合译者的文化背景与翻译风格,研究发现,不同文化背景与翻译理念的译者在《钗头凤》的英译过程中采用了多样化的意象翻译策略。较好的意象翻译文本能够准确把握源语意象的语义内涵与文化指涉,在目标语中选择能够最大限度地激活相应认知框架的表达方式,从而实现功能等效,促进目标读者获得接近于源语读者的认知体验和情感共鸣。此外,中文母语译者因具备高度契合的文化认知图式,在意象还原与语义重构上更具优势,应在古诗词英译与文化传播中发挥引领作用,探索更贴合目标读者认知的表达路径。研究有助于扩展框架语义学在古典诗词翻译领域的应用,并为中国古典诗词的外译实践及其跨文化传播提供了有益认识。
Abstract: Grounded in the framework of frame semantics, this study takes multiple English translations of Lu You’s representative ci poem “Chai Tou Feng” as a case study to examine how different translators handle poetic imagery. By comparing five representative translations and cultural backgrounds and stylistic preferences of those translators, research has shown that translators from different cultural backgrounds and with varying translation concepts adopt diverse strategies for rendering imagery. A better translation can appropriately grasp the semantic connotations and cultural references embedded in the source text, and select expressions in the target language that effectively activate corresponding cognitive frames, thereby achieving functional equivalence and promoting target readers to obtain cognitive experiences and emotional resonance that are close to those of source language readers. Furthermore, native Chinese translators, with their deep cultural understanding, are better at conveying imagery and adapting meaning in translation. They should take the lead in translating classical Chinese poetry into English and promoting Chinese culture globally, while exploring strategies that better suit the thinking patterns of international readers. This study contributes to the expansion of frame semantics in the field of classical poetry translation and offers insights into the practice and cross-cultural transmission of classical Chinese poetry.
