《孙子兵法》蒲华杰英译本中数词的语义再现研究

Research on the Semantic Reproduction of Numerals in James Trapp’s English Translation of The Art of War

摘要: 作为中国古代军事思想的集大成者，《孙子兵法》所蕴含的战略哲学体系深刻影响着全球军事理论发展。在“中国文化走出去”战略背景下，该典籍的跨文化传播质量直接关系到中华兵学智慧的全球认知维度。本文聚焦典籍中出现的数词，选取海外传播度较高的蒲华杰(James Trapp)英译本为研究对象，考察其数词翻译。通过对“数字符号–军事语义–文化意象”进行三维分析，重点探讨译者如何在目的语语境中实现兵法数词精确性与模糊性的动态平衡，进而揭示军事典籍数字符号跨文化的语义再现。本研究旨在为中国特色军事话语对外传播提供可资借鉴的翻译范式，推动中国军事思想的世界化进程。

Abstract: As the culmination of ancient Chinese military thought, The Art of War embodies a strategic philosophical system that has profoundly influenced the evolution of global military theories. Under the strategic context of the “Chinese Culture Going Global” initiative, the quality of cross-cultural dissemination of this classic directly shapes the global cognitive dimensions of Chinese military wisdom. This study focuses on numerals in the text, examining James Trapp’s widely circulated overseas English translation. Through a three-dimensional analytical framework of “numerical symbols—military semantics—cultural imagery”, the research investigates how the translator achieves a dynamic equilibrium between precision and ambiguity in military numerals within the target-language context. It further reveals the cross-cultural semantic reproduction of numerical symbols in military classics. The study aims to provide a reference-worthy translation framework for the international dissemination of Chinese military discourse, thereby advancing the global dissemination of China’s military thought.
