翻译补偿下的武侠小说《鹿鼎记》的英译研究
A Study on the English Translation of the Martial Arts Novel The Deer and the Cauldron from the Perspective of Translation Compensation
摘要: 武侠小说是极具中国特色的文学体裁,其英译推动中国传统文化在全球范围内的广泛传播。本文在翻译补偿理论的指导下,以《鹿鼎记》闵福德的英译本为研究语料,旨在从语言、文化、审美三个维度探讨译者如何通过增益、替换、加注等补偿策略来弥合文化缺省。本文希望能够为武侠小说这类高密度文化负载文本的翻译实践提供理论与实践指导,进而有效地促进中国武侠文化的传播。
Abstract: As a distinctly Chinese literary genre, wuxia fiction plays a significant role in promoting the global dissemination of traditional Chinese culture through its English translations. Guided by the theory of translation compensation, this study examines John Minford’s translation of Jin Yong’s wuxia novel The Deer and the Cauldron. It aims to explore how the translator effectively bridges cultural defaults across linguistic, cultural, and aesthetic dimensions using compensatory strategies such as amplification, substitution, and annotation. This research hopes to provide theoretical and practical guidance for translating culturally dense texts like wuxia fiction, thereby effectively facilitating the transmission of Chinese wuxia culture.
