Abstract: This study constructs a novel perspective for understanding Chinese philosophy by examining the Heart Sutra, a foundational Buddhist text, through the lens of Journey to the West. It outlines the character traits within Journey to the West and the wisdom conveyed in the Heart Sutra, revealing the symbolic meanings and expressive forms of wisdom embedded in the narrative. By exploring the philosophical principles and interpretive insights of the Heart Sutra, and further comparing the philosophical ideas and manifestations of wisdom in both texts, the study identifies profound intrinsic connections between them in certain aspects, offering a new approach to comprehending Chinese philosophical wisdom. This research not only significantly enriches the cultural interpretation of Journey to the West and the philosophical understanding of the Heart Sutra, but also provides fresh perspectives and methodologies for the study of Chinese philosophy.
