卡特福德翻译转换理论在雅思阅读教学中的运用——以《剑桥雅思19~20》为例
The Application of Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory in IELTS Reading Teaching—A Case Study of “Cambridge IELTS 19 and Cambridge IELTS 20
摘要: 雅思阅读考试要求考生快速识别题目与原文间的同义替换。卡特福德翻译转换理论提出了“层次转换”和“范畴转换”的概念。该理论为分析雅思阅读中的同义替换提供了理论指导和系统框架。本文通过课堂分析《剑桥雅思19》和《剑桥雅思20》例题,发现该理论能有效帮助学生识别题目和原文间的同义关系,如名词短语与动词短语的转换、主动与被动语态的转换等。教学实验显示,大约80%的学生能掌握显性替换,但复杂转换的识别仍需加强。研究表明,该理论可提升学生做题的准确率,并为英语教学提供新思路。
Abstract: IELTS Reading Test requires candidates to swiftly and efficiently identify synonymous substitutions between questions and passages. J. C. Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory proposes level shifts and category shifts in translation, which provides theoretical guidance and a systematic framework for analyzing such paraphrasing. This essay focuses on classroom analysis of example questions from “Cambridge IELTS 19” and “Cambridge IELTS 20”, showcasing that this theory effectively helps students recognize synonymous relationships, such as the conversion between noun phrases and verb phrases, or those between active and passive structures. Teaching experiments revealed that about 80% of students could pinpoint specific substitutions, while the recognition of more complex transformations still requires improvement. The essay demonstrates that this theory can enhance students’ scores in the IELTS Reading Test and offers new insights for English language teaching.
